Monthly Update: New Project and Exploration of Self-Worth and Prejudice

Happy October... hooray for the month of falling leaves and Halloween!

And here is my monthly update:

Questions for my studentsThis month, our students will continue to dive into Self-Worth by sharing:

  1. What small things do you do that you find extremely satisfying?

  2. What do you get complimented on? What strengths might lie underneath?

  3. What would your best friend say are your top 3 strengths?

  4. What are your favorite subjects or classes in school? Why?

A Research Study That Blew My Mind

I recently learned that prejudice arises from 'in-group love' rather than 'outgroup hate.'

This essentially means that we develop prejudice not simply due to the differences of others, but because we feel the need to justify their perceived moral inferiority in comparison to our own beliefs and values.

The same factors that foster attachment and loyalty within an in-group can also lead to distrust and antagonism toward those outside it. In-group members often justify their values through a sense of moral superiority, especially in situations marked by distrust, power struggles, and social comparison. As a result, the group's cohesion is strengthened by a shared sense of hostility and disdain toward out-groups, further deepening their collective loyalty.

This has really opened my eyes to the biases shaped by my personal beliefs and identities, which I am currently trying to question rather than allowing them to hijack me.

Project I am Currently Working On

Many people have reached out to me about last year's show, Power of Conscious Communication. Recently, a father shared how the show's theme transformed his relationship with his teenage son. He requested the videos as a refresher to help him fully embody the tools of conscious communication. In response, I’m currently editing the videos to create digestible content that everyone can easily implement in their families and relationships. Until then, you can watch the full show here:

As always, if this resonated with you (or didn't ;), you can text or email me at 562-384-7827, Amna@AmnaDance.com. I love hearing from you.

Warmly,

Amna
